Why Rooted Rhythm

We don't just treat symptoms. We support the whole family.

Most therapy practices treat the child in isolation. We believe that real, lasting change happens when kids AND their parents grow together. That's why every Rooted Rhythm child therapy engagement includes parent coaching — because the most powerful therapeutic tool your child has is you.

Our approach is evidence-based, trauma-informed, and rooted in the latest science of high sensitivity and child development. And unlike open-ended therapy, we work within a clear 12-week structure so your family knows what to expect from day one.

Play therapy that creates real change

Children communicate through play, and our licensed therapists are trained to meet them there, using child-led play therapy to process emotions, build coping skills, and grow resilience.

Parent coaching built into every plan

You're not a bystander in your child's healing. Our parent coaching gives you the tools to extend the work beyond the therapy room and into your everyday life.

A clear 12-week process — not open-ended

We set concrete goals with you from the start and work toward real, measurable outcomes. No indefinite commitments. Just focused, purposeful healing.

What Families Say

Real change, in their own words

My husband and I were looking for a therapist for assistance with our 10 year old daughter. I had no idea what a blessing Sophie and her experience would be. We met with her for a consultation, and she presented the “tuned in parenting program” as something to help support us. Initially, we were hesitant, but when presented with the modules and topics, it seemed like a great option due to the flexibility.
— Mother of a 10 year old girl
Rooted Rhythm was a game changer for us! We needed someone to help us navigate parenting our oldest son, who is 5 years old, who we learned is highly sensitive. We started sessions with Sophie and instantly felt a connection and her support for us and our son! We honestly noticed such a positive difference after working with Sophie to think about our son’s behaviors differently and learn how to support him as a highly sensitive child!

We would 100% recommend Rooted Rhythm and Sophie to anybody looking for support parenting highly sensitive children!
— Parents of 3 boys
Wow! This program is everything we needed and more. We immediately saw changes in our parenting and how beneficial it was to both our children and our partnership. The program is so supportive and flexible if time is tight. There are recorded information sessions and lots of references. The meditation at the start and end is so helpful to do before listening to really get present and focused. I really think all parents should take this program.
— Parent of siblings in program
We continue to re-listen and refer to different topics now as different challenges arise. I recommend this to all parents! This is the best investment for your family to support in more ways than you can imagine!”
— Mother of a 10 year old girl
Thank you Rooted Rhythm for an unforgettable experience growing, learning, and finding our rhythm together.

Elana Cohen, you are the best of the best; with such care, humanity, and kindness you guided us from 3rd grade storminess to a thriving 4th grade. The tools you taught our “sweet D” have become family treasures that we all keep in our daily routines. From this vantage point I can barely begin to understand the value of a 9 year old having such clarity on mental health and overcoming moments of overwhelm.

Rooted Rhythm, you run such a professional operation that businesses of all kinds should take notice. It’s so very special what you do for our COMMUNITY.
— Parent of 4th grader
Our 6 year old son was getting in trouble at school, melting down all the time and struggling very much with life’s challenges.  We realized that he had very big feelings, a lot of anxiety and self-doubt, and our inability to help him was creating a stressful home.  We met with Sophie for a consultation and knew she would be able to help us. Her calm, intelligent demeanor and authenticity created a safe place for our family to learn about our son, grow together and begin to heal as a family.  Sophie’s methods of parent coaching via the online course and live meetings are rooted in research and education, and her play therapy is effective and personal to each child.  Because Sophie is so open and supportive, genuinely caring about her clients, the process feels safe and is easy to trust.  Sophie changed the trajectory of our family and has given us the skills to continue to build a stronger family.”
— Mother of a 6 year old boy
Kate was instrumental in giving our sensitive kiddo the tools he needed to feel more confident and expressive. We had taken him to other therapy practices but the feedback and parent coaching provided by the Rooted Rhythm team was invaluable.

The Book Behind It All

Where the Science of Sensitivity Meets Everyday Parenting

Sophie Schauermann, LCSW, founded Rooted Rhythm Therapy after more than a decade of working closely with children and families.

With a child development and clinical psychology degree from Tufts University and a graduate degree in social work from the University of Denver, Sophie is one of a small number of clinicians with deep, specialized training in both play therapy and the highly sensitive person (HSP) framework.

Her book, TUNED IN, translates the science of sensitivity into practical, compassionate tools that any parent can use. It's the foundation of our parent coaching program — and now, it's available for every family we work with through the Tuned In Institute.

Your family doesn't have to figure this out alone.

We know that reaching out to a therapist takes courage. Our intake team is warm, responsive, and genuinely invested in matching your family with the right fit.
